If you’re fortunate enough to be visiting the wonderful City of London then you are going to need to know how to get around; although there is a lot of transport available it pays to know how the transport systems work and when and where you can travel to and from.

Riding the Subway:(Also known as the ‘Tube’) is a very fast way to get around London and is certainly a cheaper alternative to using Taxi’s and buses. Each subway route is mapped out in different colors for easy reference and will get you to your destination fast. It’s always worth checking to see if there are any planned works scheduled as this could affect your journey times and how you reach your destination. There are many trains running every single hour on the Tube from about half-past five in the morning up until just after midnight; if you need to be some place when the trains are not running then you can always get a taxi.

Look out for the lovely black London cabs that adorn the streets, these are quite elegant and really stand out making them very easy to spot. Taxis are an excellent method of transport for traveling around London but you have to be prepared to pay extra if you want to use them during the evening or at weekends. London taxi drivers know the ins and outs of the city very well and can take you wherever you want to go.

You may be tempted to hire a car and drive your way around London and although this gives you the freedom you want, you should know that driving in London is very demanding and the city can get extremely busy with traffic jams building up for miles, on top of this there are also congestion charges in various places throughout the city so you could end up paying a lot more than you anticipated.

An excellent way to save money as you travel around London is by using an Oyster card, this card uses a pay as you go system and works out pretty cheap if you intend to make a lot of single journeys. The Oyster card can be used on buses, on the Tube and even on some train journeys. With singles fares starting from approximately £1.90 depending on where you travel and what time of day it is, you can be sure to keep your vacation expenses down.
